Our Mission
Formerly known as Midland Area Homes, Home To Stay Housing Assistance Center promotes self-sufficiency to Midland County residents in need of stable housing and support services.
Our countless volunteers, devoted board of directors and staff have a collective vision of a community with safe, stable housing for all. No one should have to worry about where they’re going to sleep tonight and if they’ll be safe.
We are designated by the State of Michigan as the Housing Assessment and Resource Agency (HARA) for Midland County, making us a recognized central point of intake for high-need individuals and families facing eviction or homelessness.

OUR STORY
Home To Stay was created by ten local churches back in 1969 when they saw a growing need for housing assistance in the Midland County community. Over 50 years later, we are still living this mission of promoting self-sufficiency to Midland County residents in need of stable housing and support services.
In 2022, we received over 3,000 calls for housing support. Over 1,050 of those calls turned into full intakes where we supported households who were homeless or at risk of losing their housing due to an eviction. Services included case management, rental assistance, advocacy, housing resource information and referrals. Housing instability impacts everyone including older adults, children, individuals living with a disability or mental illness as well as families experiencing domestic violence or those who have lost employment or have had a death in the family.
Last year, we administered the COVID Emergency Rental Assistance (CERA) program administered through MSHDA. Home To Stay processed the applications for Midland County that in turn helped prevent households from being evicted during the pandemic. Over 2,000 households were served in Midland County through the CERA program.
Our other critical support program is our Home Repair Program, which helps low-income residents and seniors with repairs or replacements to keep them safely housed. This can include repairs and replacements for roofs, windows, utilities, plumbing and electrical. It also includes accessibility modifications - like ramps and grab bars.
We hope you'll consider donating to us today as your support can help us continue to meet the housing needs in our community. Home To Stay and the Midland County community appreciate your support for these important programs!

OUR history
In 1969, 10 local churches saw a need for a coordinated response to housing issues of low-income, senior and disabled residents. They pooled their resources and ideas around a central mission of providing housing assistance to those in need and Midland Area Homes was established. In 2018, the organization rebranded to Home To Stay Housing Assistance Center to capture our passion and goals for the Midland County community.
